What to expect AFTER your first adjustment
- If it has been some time since your last adjustment or it’s your first adjustment ever, you may experience some soreness or discomfort. It can feel similarly to the soreness you would get from working out. This is a normal reaction to Chiropractic adjustments. Remember your Chiropractor is making adjustments to areas of your spine that may not be moving well and or are in the wrong position.
- If you are sore, use ice on the area. This can be repeated as often as needed. Do not apply ice directly to bare skin, always protect your skin with a covering such as a shirt or towel.
- Do not use heat except under the doctor’s instruction. Heat may aggravate an injury or slow the process.
- If you are under Chiropractic care due to an injury or trauma, for a time it is best to stray away from heavy lifting or repetitive moments until the doctor indicates you are ready for normal activities. Strenuous athletic activities such as running, lifting weights, impact aerobics, racquetball, tennis, skiing, soccer, etc. should be avoided. Other day to day activities to avoid are yard work such as raking, digging, bending over at the waist. Also lifting heavy objects such as groceries, pets, children etc. can aggravate or increase injury.
- Please ask your doctor if it would be advisable to return to work after your appointment. This is completely dependent on the severity and type of injury you have.
